Most male travellers enjoyed staying at this station for here in the entertainment quarters they could find the friendliest hostesses of the entire trip. A teahouse and girls,Mukojima

A teahouse and girls,Mukojima

The English title is Wayside Resting Place. This is probably the endai bench at a teahouse on the Mukojima embankment. The kimono style of the three dressed-up girls indicates that they are geigi (young geisha). The food on the bench appears to be manju sweet buns. Sakura-mochi (cherry cake), which people ate in the cherry-blossom season, is said to have been created by Yamamoto Shinroku, the gateman at Chomeiji Temple in Mukojima during the Genroku Period.==Date:unknown, Place:Tokyo, Photo:unknown, (Credit:Nagasaki University Library/Kyodo News Images) [Cabinet Number85‐35‐0]

Practicing traditional songs

The woman is practicing songs and accompanying herself on a shamisen (three-stringed lute). The hair style with tortoiseshell hairpins and the look of her kimono collar suggest that she is a geisha (entertainer). The bonsai potted plants on each side are props.==Date:unknown, Place:unknown, Photo:unknown, (Credit:Nagasaki University Library/Kyodo News Images) [Cabinet Number69‐51‐0]

Girls taking a walk in a garden

The location is unknown, but is looks like a garden of a residence. Three dressed up women have just entered the door made of branches. The woman in the center holds the hem of kimono with her left hand, so she is probably a geisha. See photo numbered 45-10.==Date:unknown, Place:unknown, Photo:Ogawa Kazumasa, (Credit:Nagasaki University Library/Kyodo News Images) [Cabinet Number45‐9‐0]
