Japanese grass snake 'borrows' poison from toxic toads: study

TOKYO, Japan - The Japanese grass snake does not produce the toxic fluid it shoots out from glands near the neck, but it stores the poison found in its prey, such as toxic toads, according to a team of researchers from Kyoto University and Old Dominion University in Virginia. Endangered Iriomote cat said threatened by poisonous toad

TOKYO, Japan - The endangered Iriomote wildcats (file photo) on Iriomotejima Island in Okinawa Prefecture face a new threat from an invasion of the island by poisonous marine toads. The island is the only known habitat for the rare cats, which have been designated as a species requiring preservation. They were confirmed as a new species of cat in 1967.
