China: Floating Traffic Barriers Turn Flooded Street Into Surreal Parade in Qingdao

On June 15, 2025, in Qingdao, Shandong, bright orange traffic barriers were seen drifting down a flooded street like boats. Torrential rain had turned the road into a shallow river, sending the barriers—usually used to manage traffic—floating and bumping into each other. Bystanders laughed and filmed the surreal scene as the barriers bobbed gently in the water, resembling a slow-moving parade. The video ended with the barriers continuing their odd journey downstream.

TOKYO, Japan - An official of InfoCom Research Inc., an independent administrative entity, drives a new vehicle for physically handicapped and elderly people in a public road test March 13. The four-wheeled, electric vehicle, dubbed the Intelligent City Walker (ICW), is equipped with various IT features, such as infrared and ultrasonic sensors, which allow it to receive traffic information from cameras fixed to electric poles and other sites and then automatically avoid barriers. InfoCom will continue studies in a bid to make the whole ICW system available for less than 500,000 yen by 2005.

Among the injured are two in serious condition, while 27 people still receiving treatment, Koca tweeted. The accident occurred when a passenger bus crashed into the barriers on the Ankara-Istanbul highway and overturned, semi-official Anadolu Agency reported. The Istanbul direction of the highway was temporarily closed to lift the bus with a crane, said the report. Xinhua News Agency correspondents reporting from Ankara. (XHTV)
