Former prisoners of Shkval Special Battalion defend Ukraine

UKRAINE - JULY 26, 2024 - Pavlo is a squad commander at the Shkval (Squall) Battalion. Former prisoners who volunteered to defend Ukraine and were released on parole make up most of the Shkval Special Assault Battalion of the 57th Otaman Kost Hordiienko Motorized Brigade. Currently, military personnel are undergoing training and acquiring the necessary skills. Many of them already have combat experience.

VILNIANSK, UKRAINE - JUNE 29, 2024 - A rescuer talks over a handheld transceiver during a response effort to the Russian missile attack in central Vilniansk, Zaporizhzhia region, southern Ukraine. Russia launched rockets at the centre of Vilniansk, a city close to the front line in Zaporizhzhia region, at 17:40 local time on Saturday, June 29.
