Philippines: Commuters Stranded as Jeepney Drivers Take Day Off for Government Cash Handout

Commuters in Quezon City faced severe transportation disruptions on the morning of March 25, 2026, after large numbers of jeepney drivers took the day off to collect government cash aid amid the rising cost of fuel caused by the conflict in the Middle East. With far fewer jeepneys on the road, bus stops were overwhelmed with passengers — some estimating crowds up to ten times the usual size. This footage shows many commuters forced to walk two or three stops ahead of their regular stop in an attempt to board buses before they filled up.
