Under the ''pluthermal'' plan, pellets of MOX fuel will be burned inside light-water reactors to generate heat for producing electricity. The two ships will make their first of two stops in Japan on Wednesday at the pier of the No. 1 Fukushima nuclear power plant operated by Tokyo Electric Power Co.
