Gov't holds meeting to secure jo
Prime Minister Ryutaro Hashimoto (2nd from R) and other
cabinet ministers concerned hold a meeting June 30 to discuss ways to
secure employment amid the uncertain outlook for the Japanese
economy. The meeting takes place at the prime minister's official
residence ahead of a regular cabinet session, in which the government
reported Japan's overall jobless rate in May remained at the postwar
high 4.1 percent set in April. The unemployment rate for men set a
postwar high 4.3 percent.
