Japanese team leaves to monitor

A Japanese team of 32 election monitors left Narita airport July 17 for Phnom Penh to monitor the July 26 Cambodian general election. Led by Tetsuya Nishimoto (2nd from R), former chairman of the Self-Defense Forces' Joint Staff Council, the team will join the Joint International Observer Group under the United Nations. Japan has extended 6.5 million dollars to Cambodia to help preparations for the election. ==Kyodo
