U S carrier Kitty Hawk enters Yokosuka port

The U.S. aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk enters the U.S. Yokosuka Naval Base in Kanagawa Prefecture on Aug. 11, replacing the flattop Independence. The 81,123-ton, 325-meter-long Kitty Hawk, which arrived from San Diego, Calif., has a crew of about 5,500 and is scheduled to be stationed in Yokosuka until around 2007. The 80,643-ton Independence left the base in July to be retired. ==Kyodo
