World's biggest containership christened in Kobe
The world's largest containership is christened the ''P and O
Nedlloyd Kobe'' at a ceremony in Kobe on Sept. 20. The 80,942-ton,
British-registered ship, capable of carrying 6,700 containers, was
named after its London-based shipowner, P and O Nedlloyd container
line, and the port of Kobe, the ship's main port of call. Building
of the ship, which has a length of some 300 meters and a beam of 43
meters, was completed Sept. 8.
