Japan, U.S. hold summit talks in
Japanese Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi and U.S. President Bill
Clinton shake hands Tuesday, Sept. 22, before their informal summit
at a New York hotel. During the three-hour meeting, the two leaders
agreed that Japan must quickly fix its banking system and economy to
help Asian and other world economies. Obuchi also accepted an
invitation from Clinton to visit Washington early next year, to
continue what Obuchi called ''very candid'' talks on ''very
substantive and important'' issues.
