Ready for action
A plane prepares for takeoff Nov. 5 aboard the U.S. aircraft
carrier Kitty Hawk, which is participating in joint military
exercises of the U.S. Marines and the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense
Force in the Sea of Japan. The 81,123-ton Kitty Hawk is taking part
in the annual drills for the first time. It replaced the aircraft
carrier Independence in August at the U.S. naval base at Yokosuka,
Kanagawa Prefecture, south of Tokyo.
