1,000 cellists hold concert
More than 1,000 Japanese and foreign cellists perform what
organizers billed as the world's biggest cello concert in Kobe,
western Japan, on Nov. 29. The concert was held to pray for peace and
recovery from the 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake that devastated the
city. The organizers said 1,013 cellists aged 4 to 87, including
about 70 U.S., German and other foreign musicians, participated in
the concert, with Prince Takamado, himself a cellist, in attendance.
