Tokyo stocks trading starts
The floor of the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) is thronged for
the opening of the year's first trading session Jan. 4. Shares on the
Tokyo market opened sharply lower, with the 225-issue Nikkei average
falling 327.94 points, or 2.37 percent, from Dec. 30 to 13,514.23 in
the first 15 minutes of trading. Floor trading in Tokyo will
disappear in April with the beginning of full-scale computerization.
