Coins from late 7th century judged to be Japan's oldest
Archeologists say Jan. 19 ''fuhonsen'' copper coins unearthed
in Nara Prefecture that were long believed to be amulets actually
date from the late 7th century, surpassing in age the oldest known
currency minted in Japan in the early 8th century.
