Ex-head of Nomura gets suspended jail term
Hideo Sakamaki (C), former president of Nomura Securities
Co., was sentenced Jan. 20 by the Tokyo District Court to a one-year
prison term, suspended for three years, for illegal payoffs to a
''sokaiya'' corporate racketeer. Sakamaki, seen entering the court
building, paid some 370 million yen to Ryuichi Koike in 1995 in
exchange for not disrupting the company's shareholders meeting,
according to the ruling.
