Embryo biopsy approved in Japan
The photo shows Kagoshima University's medical hospital,
where an ethics panel approved Jan. 28 the conditional practice of a
testing method for hereditary diseases called embryo biopsy. It is
the first medical institution in Japan to do so. The approval, which
applies particularly to tests for Duchenne muscular dystrophy in
newly fertilized eggs, could lead to the first application of the
technique in a few months.
