Okinawa accepts relocating U.S. port to Urasoe
Okinawa Gov. Keiichi Inamine (C) is thronged by reporters in
Tokyo on Jan. 29 after expressing his intention to allow the
relocation of the U.S. Army port in the prefectural capital of Naha
to the neighboring city of Urasoe. In a meeting between central
government and Okinawa prefectural government officials earlier in
the day, Inamine said he hopes Tokyo will help to turn Naha port into
an international hub port after the U.S. military vacates the area.
