New ''Nozomi'' bullet train model unveiled

A new ''Nozomi'' Shinkansen bullet train model is unveiled at JR Tokyo station Feb. 10. The new model, jointly developed by Central Japan Railway Co. and West Japan Railway Co., will make its debut March 13 on the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen Lines. The prototype of the Nozomi, which means hope in Japanese, was completed in October 1997. The new model has a maximum speed of 285 kilometers per hour, up 15 kph from the current Nozomi trains. ==Kyodo
