Border town thriving 20 years after war
Vietnamese traders, with their bicycles full-loaded with bags
of rice and other commodities they purchased in China, walk home
across a bridge in the border town of Lao Cai on Monday Feb. 15 two
days before the 20th anniversary of the outbreak of the 1979 land war
between the two countries. Diplomatic relations were normalized in
1991, and since then bilateral trade has grown steadily, amounting to
1 billion dollars last year.
