Vietnam involves citizens in saving mangroves
Vietnam has been promoting a campaign of coexistence of
shrimp cultivation and mangrove forests for saving the tropical
shrubs in Ca Mau Province, southwest of Ho Chi Minh City, by
involving local citizens. The photo shows officials of the Forestry
Development Section of Ca Mau's Agriculture and Rural Development
Department patrolling a shrimp pond. Citizens are required to plant
mangroves on 60 percent of forest land allocated to them free of
charge, while they are allowed to cultivate shrimps on the rest.
