Indonesia, Portugal sign accord on E. Timor
Indonesian Foreign Minister Ali Alatas (L) and Portuguese
Foreign Minister Jaime Gama (R), along with U.N. Secretary General
Kofi Annan, sign a U.N.-brokered agreement on East Timor at the U.N.
headquarters in New York on May 5. The accord paves the way for an
Aug. 8 vote on autonomy or independence in the former Portuguese
colony.
