          ASAHIKAWA, Japan - Two men set their robotic sumo wrestlers face to face on a special dohyo ring, as first round matches get underway at the first regional preliminaries in Asahikawa, central Hokkaido on Sept. 2. A total of 175 robots, backed by their creators and owners, took part in the Hokkaido preliminary of the 13th FSI-All Japan Robot-Sumo Tournament scheduled for Dec. 23 at Tokyo's Ryogoku Kokugikan.

The Japan Sumo Association requires all sumo wrestlers weighing 160 kilograms or more to take such a test. In another examination conducted earlier in the day, the 29-year-old Hawaiian registered 234.5 kg in weight for his own record. He became the heaviest among sumo wrestlers.
