Truman's handwritten consent on A-bomb statement found
WASHINGTON, United States - This is a handwritten message by U.S. President Harry Truman consenting to the language of a statement he was to release after the first atomic bomb was dropped on Japan on Aug. 6, 1945. The original copy of the message, sent in reply to a cable from Secretary of war Henry Stimson, has been found in the Harry S. Truman Library in Missouri. Written on the back of the cable, the message reads, ''Release when ready but not sooner than Aug. 2.''
