Kono accepts nomination as foreign minister

TOKYO, Japan - Yohei Kono, former president of Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), is swarmed by reporters as he emerges from a meeting with Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi on Sept. 28. Kono later agreed to assume the post of foreign minister when Obuchi reshuffles his cabinet Oct. 1.
