AUM senior member gets death penalty for subway attack

TOKYO, Japan - a file photo shows Masato Yokoyama, a senior member of the AUM Shinrikyo cult, who was sentenced to death Sept. 30 by the Tokyo District Court for murder and attempted murder in the 1995 nerve gas attack on the Tokyo subway. Yokoyama, 35, is one of five current and former AUM members charged with carrying out the attack March 20, 1995, which left 12 people dead and thousands injured.
