4 execs of failed Kokumin Bank held over loan scandal

TOKYO, Japan - Hideyuki Suzuki (C), former vice president of the failed Kokumin Bank, is arrested in Tokyo on Nov. 30 on suspicion of dubious lending to a Tokyo karaoke-parlor management company. Suzuki, 66, was nabbed along with Yukio Okonogi, 66, president of the second-tier regional bank when the loans were made and two other former bank executives.

7 arrested for fraud over bracelets touted as improving blood fl

CHIBA, Japan - Three types of metal bracelet which a Tokyo health appliances company allegedly sold by claiming they help blood flow have no health benefits, police say. Chiba police on Nov. 6 arrested Minoru Kajimoto, the company's president, and six former employees on suspicion of swindling 18 people out of 6.8 million yen by selling them the bracelets. The police believe the company took in some 2.45 billion yen by selling the bracelets to roughly 8,200 people in 40 prefectures from January 2004 to April this year. Home of former Niigata bank president searched over loans

TOKYO, Japan - Police on Jan. 18 search the home of Ryutaro Omori, a former president of Niigata Chuo Bank, in Mitaka, western Tokyo, in connection with suspected illicit lending practices that led to the bank's collapse in October 1999. They searched about 40 locations, including the homes of other bank executives, on suspicion the executives committed special breaches of trust under the Commercial Code.

Vice President Sonobe to replace Kawasoe as MMC president

TOKYO, Japan - Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (MMC) plans to name Vice President Takashi Sonobe (file photo), 59, to succeed President Katsuhiko Kawasoe as DaimlerChrysler AG has refused to send a top manager to replace Kawasoe, an MMC source says in Tokyo on Sept. 2. MMC, shaken by a scandal involving cover-ups of customer complaints, will formally disclose the management reshuffle by the end of this month after the Transport Ministry announces punishment over the scandal, according to the source.

FRC inks accord to sell NCB to Softbank-led group

DKB, Fuji, IBJ name joint holding firm Mizuho Holdings

Police raid Nichiei's head office over threat allegations

KYOTO, Japan - Police officers enter the head office of loan company Nichiei Co. in Kyoto on Dec. 8 on suspicion that two former employees used threatening loan-collection tactics in October. Police also raided a Nichiei office in Osaka. A Japanese law on money lending prohibits the use of threats to collect loans.

Ex-president of Kofuku Bank arrested

OSAKA, Japan - Tokusuke Egawa, former president of failed Kofuku Bank which is under temporary state control, leaves his home Sept. 16 to report to police. He was arrested later with two other former executives of the bank on suspicion of extending unauthorized loans to a real estate affiliate.
