Japan, China Communists promote friendship

TOKYO, Japan - The Japanese Communist Party (JCP) Presidium Chairman Tetsuzo Fuwa (R) shakes hands with Li Chengren, deputy head of the Chinese Communist Party's International Liaison Department (L), who leads a six-member mission, at the JCP's head office in Tokyo on Jan. 23. The two parties mended relations in July 1998, more than 30 years after they severed ties in 1967, following the Chinese Communists' ideological shift and the start of the Cultural Revolution in 1966.
