Seat-reduction bill clears lower house
TOKYO, Jan. 27 Kyodo - The House of Representatives approves controversial legislation to reduce the number of proportional representation seats in the lower house Jan. 27 in a vote at a plenary session boycotted by the opposition camp. Members of the three ruling coalition parties -- the Liberal Democratic Party, the Liberal Party and the New Komeito -- rise from their seats in support of the bill as seats for the opposition members (at center) remain deserted.
