Investigative task force for Glico-Morinaga case disbanded

OSAKA, Japan - An Osaka prefectural police officer Feb. 16 takes down a signboard outside the headquarters of the investigation task force for the unsolved ''Glico-Morinaga'' case, which involved extortion, attempted murder and the poisoning of confectionery dating back to 1984. Osaka and Kyoto prefectural police forces formally disbanded their task forces for the case the same day as they sent notification to public prosecutors of the expiration of the statute of limitations and investigative reports on the case.

    OSAKA, Japan - At midnight Feb. 12, police formally end their 16-year investigation of the ''Glico-Morinaga'' case, which involved extortion, attempted murder and the poisoning of confectionery dating back to 1984. At midnight, when the statute of limitations expired on the last of the charges that could be brought, police called it quits after mobilizing a total of 1.3 million officers during the 16-year probe into 28 related incidents.
