Hikari 'Rail Star' suffers difficulties on maiden run

FUKUOKA, Japan - The latest-model Shinkansen bullet train on the Sanyo Shinkansen Line arrived at JR Hakata Station in Fukuoka Prefecture 45 minutes behind schedule after suffering mechanical problems in Hyogo Prefecture during its debut run on March 11. The Hikari Rail Star competes with air services by linking Shin-Osaka and Hakata stations in just two hours and 45 minutes.
