Japanese court rejects demand for closure of nuclear reactor
FUKUI, Japan - The Fukui District Court on March 22 rejected a demand, filed by a group of local residents, for the permanent closure of Japan's only prototype fast-breeder nuclear reactor, shown in this file photo. The court said it is unlikely that the Monju prototype reactor ''poses any visible danger to infringe upon the lives or health of the plaintiffs.'' This photo of the Monju, located in Tsuruga on the Sea of Japan coast, was taken in August 1999.
