Car carrying coffin of empress dowager leaves for funeral
TOKYO, Japan - A car carrying the coffin of Empress Dowager Nagako leaves the Imperial Palace for the Toshimagaoka imperial cemetery July 25. The first half of a Shinto-style funeral was to be performed at the cemetery in Tokyo's Bunkyo Ward, with Emperor Akihito serving as chief mourner. The empress dowager, wife of the late Emperor Hirohito, died of old age on June 16 at age 97. Her posthumous name is Empress Kojun.
