Suzuki to provide miniwagons to GM on OEM basis

TOKYO, Japan - General Motors Corp. (GM) of the United States will sell its miniwagon under the Chevrolet MW S Edition brand in Japan (shown in the photo), with the help of Suzuki Motor Corp. Suzuki said Aug. 30 it will supply GM, Suzuki's biggest shareholder, with its WagonR Plus for sale in Japan on an original equipment manufacturing (OEM) basis.

    TOKYO, Japan - Suzuki Motor Corp. said on May 10 it shipped to Australia a first batch of 1.5-liter Chevrolet Cruze compact cars it developed for General Motors Corp. (GM). It will also supply the vehicle to Nissan Motor Co. starting next spring under an original equipment manufacturing (OEM) agreement. The MR Wagon, whose two-wheel-drive version is priced at 1,135,000 yen, is targeted at housewives in their late 20s and 30s.

              NAGOYA, Japan - Photo shows what Toyota Motor Corp. claims to be the world's smallest inductive charging system for electric vehicles. Toyota announced Nov. 29 it has jointly developed the system with U.S. automaker General Motors Corp. The system does not require the charger to be installed in the car, and so is smaller and lighter than conventional systems that require onboard chargers.

                NAGOYA, Japan - Toyota Motor Corp. is considering closing assembly lines for the Prizm model at the Fremont, CA plant of New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. (NUMMI), a joint venture with General Motors Corp. of the United States, due to weak sales of the model in the U.S., company officials said in Nagoya on Aug. 14. About 45,000 Prizm subcompact cars were assembled last year.
