Singapore opens first free-speech park
SINGAPORE - A man delivers a speech Sept. 1 as people in the tightly controlled country are allowed to address the public without a permit for the first time with the establishment of a ''Speakers' Corner.'' Several speakers turned up at dawn at the designated venue to voice their opinions but their audience comprised mainly journalists and some elderly people who had been doing slow-moving martial arts exercises.
