Hagiwara slips to 8th in women's 200-meter individual medley
SYDNEY, Australia - Japanese medal hope Tomoko Hagiwara turns first after the butterfly in the opening leg but slips to a disappointing eighth in the Olympic women's 200-meter individual medley final Sept. 19 in Sydney. Ukrainian Yana Klochkova, who won the 400-meter medley in a world record time Sept. 16, won in a new Olympic record of 2 minutes, 10.68 seconds at Sydney International Aquatic Center. Hagiwara recorded a time of 2:15.64, well outside her Japanese record of 2:12.84.
