Janeth Chepngetich of Kenya claimed the women's 10,000m title at the ongoing 13th African Games on Thursday evening.
Chepngetich, standing in for her senior compatriots who missed the continental games due to their preparation for the Paris Olympic Games, won the race in 33 minutes and 37 seconds at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra, Ghana.
Chepngetich, 24, proved her indomitability when Wede Kefale of Ethiopia overtook her briefly with 150 meters left. The young Kenyan recovered strongly, overtaking the Ethiopian again and leaving her behind until the finish line.
