Nobel chemistry prize a complete surprise, Shirakawa says
YOKOHAMA, Japan - Japanese chemist Hideki Shirakawa speaks to reporters at his home in Yokohama on Oct. 11. He said the 2000 Nobel Prize in Chemistry he got along with two American colleagues was totally unexpected. ''I did not expect it at all and I was indeed surprised,'' the 64-year-old professor emeritus at the University of Tsukuba said.
