Japan edge Saudis 1-0 to win Asian Cup

BEIRUT, Lebanon - Midfielder Shigeyoshi Mochizuki (C) jumps in jubilation after sweeping in a free kick from Shunsuke Nakamura in the 30th minute, scoring Japan's only goal in their 1-0 win over Saudi Arabia in the Asian Cup final Oct. 29 at Beirut Sports City Stadium. Japan won their second Asian Cup title, the first since 1992 when they also edged the Saudis 1-0 in the final in Hiroshima.

Troussier confident of victory ahead of Asian Cup final

BEIRUT, Lebanon - Philippe Troussier, coach of Japan's soccer team, tells a press conference on the eve of the Asian Cup final against Saudi Arabia in Beirut on Oct. 28 that he is confident of a victory by his side. Responding to a question about Japan's failure to keep a clean sheet en route to the final, the Frenchman said, ''Yes, but look at our goal difference (20 for, six against). With that kind of attacking balance, why worry?''
