NEC to launch PCs for digital satellite TV broadcasts

TOKYO, Japan - Photo shows what NEC Corp. says is Japan's first desktop personal computer capable of receiving digital satellite television broadcasts. NEC said Feb. 27 it will start shipping the VALUESTAR T on March 8. The model has a 15.3-inch wide digital liquid crystal display (LCD) that can automatically show selected TV programs. The model is equipped with Intel's Pentium III CPU and a 60-gigabyte hard disk drive.

Sony unveils world's slimmest LCD TV

TOKYO, Japan - Photo shows the ''world's thinnest and lightest'' 40-inch liquid crystal display television, which Sony Corp. unveiled in Tokyo on Aug. 28. The company said it will launch the new television in November as part of the fall and winter lineup of its popular Bravia series. Sharp to launch thinnest-ever LCD TVs

Matsushita expands Viera TV lineup

TOKYO, Japan - Seven new models of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co.'s popular large-screen, flat-panel Viera televisions are displayed at a presentation in Tokyo on Aug. 9. Six of the models are plasma TVs with full high-definition specifications, ranging in size from 42-inch to 65-inch screens. Sharp aims to expand FY 2007 global LCD TV sales to 9 mil. units

TOKYO, Japan - Sharp Corp. President Katsuhiko Machida introduces a new 108-type liquid crystal display TV set at a prss conference in Tokyo on Jan. 22. He said that the Osaka-based company will try to expand its global sales of LCD TVs to 9 million units in fiscal 2007, up from its estimated sales of 6 million in fiscal 2006, by reinforcing its production capacity in Japan, Mexico and Poland.

Toshiba to launch HD DVD-equipped laptop in mid-May

TOKYO, Japan - Toshiba Corp. said April 10 it will launch in Japan in mid-May the world's first notebook computer equipped with a next-generation DVD drive. The Qosmio G30/697HS, with an HD DVD drive and a 17-inch high-definition liquid crystal monitor, is expected to sell for about 400,000 yen, Toshiba officials said. (Kyodo)
