Ex-state minister Komoto dies
TOKYO, Japan - Former state minister Toshio Komoto (file photo), a heavyweight in the ruling Liberal Democratic Party during the 1970s and early 1980s, died of heart failure May 24. He was 89. Komoto, who was elected to the House of Representatives 17 times since 1949 from Hyogo Prefecture, retired from politics in 1996 for health reasons.
