Canada: Wildfire Prompts State of Emergency and Evacuations at Norway House Cree Nation

Norway House Cree Nation declared a state of emergency on Friday, May 29, as a wildfire threatened the First Nation community in northern Manitoba. Hundreds of residents were evacuated from homes on Fort Island.

Canada: Wildfire in Alberta Forces Evacuations Near Edmonton

A wildfire broke out Thursday, May 28 in Barrhead County, northwest of Edmonton, Alberta, prompting a state of local emergency. Evacuation orders were issued for the Summerlea and Thunder Lake subdivisions. Firefighting crews have since contained structural fires in the area, allowing Summerlea residents to return home, while Thunder Lake residents remain evacuated.

US: Three Arrested After Brawl Erupts at Connecticut College Graduation Ceremony

A brawl allegedly involving two families broke out during Connecticut State Community College Gateway's graduation ceremony at Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater in Bridgeport, on Thursday, May 21, forcing police to intervene and temporarily halt the event. Three people were arrested on charges including assault of a public safety officer and breach of peace.

US: Two Brush Fires Break Out in Naples, Florida

Two wildfires broke out in Naples, Florida, on Monday, May 18. The fires spread rapidly, producing large plumes of smoke. One fire in the Picayune Strand State Forest, fanned by stormy gusts, burned 650 acres, but was 85% extinguished as of Tuesday.
