U.N. special session declares war on AIDS
NEW YORK, United States - U.N. General Assembly President Harri Holkeri (C) bangs the gavel at the end of a three-day special assembly session in New York on June 27 to declare the assembly's adoption of the ''Global Crisis, Global Action'' plan. Under the plan, the U.N. declared war on HIV/AIDS and vowed to make concerted efforts to fight the global scourge, with rich countries pledging a flow of funds and technology to the developing world.
