Ministry mulls platform barriers to prevent falls

TOKYO, Japan - Photo shows a barrier which automatically opens and closes with train doors installed at Uchisaiwaicho Station on Tokyo's Mita subway line. The transport ministry is planning to consider installing the barriers on train and subway platforms to prevent passengers, particularly the visually impaired, intoxicated and elderly, from falling onto tracks, ministry sources said Aug. 14.
