Group breaks into home, steals 100 mil. yen

TOKYO, Japan - Four or five men broke into a company manager's house (pictured) in Tokyo's Adachi Ward on Dec. 16 and stole about 100 million yen in cash after binding the manager, his wife and daughter. The men entered the house around 4 a.m. and threatened Mitsuo Komiya, 51, with a stun gun, saying, ''Money, money.'' They forced him to open a safe and took the money away, the police said.

Motorcyclists steal 75 mil. yen from money transport vehicle

TOKYO, Japan - Police investigate a robbery site in Tokyo's Ginza district Dec. 20 where two men stole a bag containing about 75 million yen from a money transport vehicle (C). One man drove a motorbike (in front of the vehicle in photo) in the vehicle's path to make it stop, while the other man broke the glass of the vehicle's rear window and grabbed the bag of cash from the back seat. Neighbors demand preserving old home of empress

Musician Yoshiki loses 4 mil. yen in car theft

TOKYO, Japan - Yoshiki (in file photo), the leader of the disbanded popular rock band X Japan, had 4 million yen in cash and other items stolen from his car in a parking lot in Tokyo's Shibuya Ward, police said Aug. 22. The 36-year-old Yoshiki, whose real name is Yoshiki Hayashi, was attending a business meeting at a nearby restaurant, his talent agency said.

Prosecutors raid home of Sachiyo Nomura

TOKYO, Japan - Prosecutors Dec. 5 raid the Tokyo home of Sachiyo Nomura, the wife of Hanshin Tigers' manager Katsuya Nomura, who was arrested the same day on suspicion of evading some 200 million yen in corporate and income taxes.

OSAKA, Japan - An image taken by a security video camera shows a man (C) whom police believe robbed the Osaka Central Post Office in Kita Ward, Osaka, on Jan. 11. A group of three men made off with 11 million yen in cash intended for an automated teller machine in the robbery.

Kishida's Reiko portrait auctioned for record 360 mil. yen

TOKYO, Japan - Two men hold the late Japanese painter Ryusei Kishida's famed portrait of his 6-year-old daughter Reiko wearing a wool shawl, auctioned Dec. 2 for 360 million yen, the highest successful bid in any auction in Japan. Toshio Nakamoto, a 71-year-old president of a major plywood manufacturer, bought the portrait at a Tokyo hotel.

AUM follower sought in embezzlement case

Tokyo police place on a wanted list on Jan. 11 an AUM Shinrikyo follower who is suspected of embezzling money from the Japan branch of the U.S. direct-marketing company Amway.
