Japan's national flag hoisted in Kabul
KABUL, Afghanistan - A rising sun national flag is hoisted at the Japanese liaison office in Kabul for the first time in nearly 13 years on Dec. 26, following recognition of the country's interim administration. Japan severed diplomatic relations with Afghanistan after the Soviet invasion in 1979 and the Japanese Embassy in Kabul was closed in early 1989 amid the nearly 10-year Soviet military occupation.
