Firefighters for World Cup to wear special jackets

TOKYO, Japan - The Fire Defense Agency decided Feb. 28 to lend 150 sets of protective jackets (demonstrated in the photo) and detectors to local fire departments in areas that will host World Cup soccer games in a bid to prepare for possible biological and chemical weapons attacks. The jackets will protect firefighters from harmful organisms and chemicals, and the detectors can sense anthrax, smallpox virus and poisonous gas, agency officials said.
