Court begins hearing lawsuit on Koizumi's shrine visit
MATSUYAMA, Japan - Plaintiffs, who filed a lawsuit against Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi for his August 2001 visit to Tokyo's Yasukuni Shrine, enter the Matsuyama District Court on March 1 to attend the first hearing of their trial. The plaintiffs, including relatives of the war dead and Buddhists, have claimed that Koizumi violated the Constitution, which calls for separation of state and religion.
