Kabuki actor Nakamura Ganjiro shows art to N.Y. arts students

NEW YORK, United States - Two arts students dance at a Manhattan arts school March 6 after receiving lessons from Nakamura Ganjiro, a top Japanese Kabuki actor. Nakamura, invited to speak at the Professional Performing Arts School, performed a series of basic dancing techniques of Kabuki to a group of 16 aspiring professional dancers after giving a talk on the history of the popular Japanese drama.

      TOTTORI, Japan - A computer-controlled robot with a ''kirin'' head performs a Japanese traditional ''shishi'' (lion) dance at an exhibition of high-technology industrial products in the western Japan city Tottori on the Sea of Japan on Nov. 27. The kirin is an imaginary creature similar to the dragon in China. The shishi dance is usually performed by a person, but the capering robot built by a group of students at Tottori Kogyo High School, proved equal to the art.
