Gov't report says economy has bottomed out
TOKYO, Japan - Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi (C) presides over a meeting of his economic ministers at his official residence May 17. A monthly report released after the meeting said, ''While the economy continues to be in a difficult situation, it has bottomed out.'' It was the first time since June 1999 that the Japanese government has acknowledged the economy stopped deteriorating.
